Blackcurrant - 'Ben Lomond' - 3 litre pot
Mid season, cropping from late July. This has a high yield and an excellent flavour. Use for dessert, jams and freezing. Frost and disease resistant.
Where to plant:
Place in a sheltered spot in neutral to acid free draining soil in sun or partial shade. Allow 1.5/2m (5/6ft) between plants.
How to plant:
Dig the planting hole about twice the diameter of the pot and soak the root ball before planting. Mix compost and general fertilizer with the soil when you back fill. Water well in and keep watered until established.
Cut all the shoots back to two or three buds above ground level after planting. The best crops are produced on branches that are a year old. Remove damaged or weak shoots in the third year and from then on cut out about a third of the oldest branches.
