About Us

In 1990, a wooden building at the head of Loch Fyne, beside the rapidly expanding Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, was the small shoot that became the Tree Shop.

From this modest beginning, when we sold only native and common trees as well as gifts and crafts made exclusively from wood, we "branched out" into a much wider range of plants and a covered area was erected to stock a big selection of Rhododendrons and Azaleas, many grown locally. A nursery was established in and around the Victorian greenhouses in Ardkinglas Estate and here trees and shrubs were (and still are) grown for sale at the Tree Shop. At the same time, the shop was gradually introducing a bigger selection. It became well known as the place to find something a bit different.

Later, from a small caravan, we started providing food for customers and travellers to take away.

1999 saw the addition of a large greenhouse which incorporated indoor and conservatory plants with a cafe serving home made food to take away.

Our outdoor selection continues to expand. Through the winter months we sell bare root trees, soft fruit bushes and hedging. The beginning of the year sees Camellias, Rhododendrons and Azaleas filling the covered area. We still remember our roots by selling native trees and shrubs throughout the year but in addition we have many rare and unusual plants on offer.

The shop now stocks an eclectic mix of items - quality gifts and crafts, books and cards, toys and games, sweets and preserves, soaps, candles and outdoor clothing. Gardeners needs are catered for with bulbs, seeds, sundries and tools.

The take away cafe remains extremely popular. Our freshly made soups, rolls and cakes and Fair Trade teas and coffees are a welcome break for customers and passers by alike.

The Tree Shop is in scenery of unrivalled beauty, situated at the head of Loch Fyne and surrounded by mountains. The friendly and knowledgeable staff welcome customers old and new to experience stress free shopping in a spectacular setting.
